Individual Certification · IC
A personal certificate for pilots trusted to make the right call.
The IC pathway recognises the personal competency of a remote pilot to operate UAS safely and professionally. It is the foundation for pilots working independently or serving as the operational backbone of a certified organisation.
Eligibility
Ready for assessment
- 18 years or older
- Valid passport or national ID
- 50 documented flight hours for Initial IC
- Medical self-declaration or recognised medical certificate
Assessment
Knowledge plus practical proof
100-question knowledge exam
90 minutes covering law, airspace, meteorology, navigation, systems, planning, emergencies, human factors, and safety management. Pass mark: 75%.
Practical assessment flight
Plan, brief, execute, respond to an emergency, and debrief a representative mission with an AeroInsight Approved Assessor.
Maintaining currency
A certificate that stays active
- Valid for 24 months from issue
- 20 documented flight hours every 12 months
- Annual proficiency and emergency review
- 50-question renewal exam before expiry
IC with BVLOS endorsement
Pilots seeking BVLOS recognition must demonstrate 200 documented flight hours and meet the applicable additional operational assessment requirements.
